Ingredients:
1. 1 quart (4 cups) strawberries, divided
2. 1/2 cup sugar
3. 1/4 cup cornstarch
4. 1 unbaked 9 inch pie crust
5. 1 tablespoon butter
6. Whipped cream or ice cream for serving (optional)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2. Wash and hull strawberries. Reserve 12 whole berries for garnish. Slice remaining berries in half.
3. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, salt, and nutmeg. Gradually stir in water until smooth.
4. Add sliced berries and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Cook until mixture thickens and boils.
5. Meanwhile, prepare the pie crust. In a large bowl, combine flour and sugar. Cut in butter or margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing with a fork until dough forms a ball.
6. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to a 1/8-inch thickness. Fit into a 9 inch pie plate. Trim pastry even with rim of plate. Crimp edge as desired.
7. Pour berry mixture into crust and spread evenly. Arrange reserved whole berries on top.
8. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown."
